What is the EA?
The EA is a federally- authorized tax practitioner who is specialized in the taxation.
The EA is empowered by the United States Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
Who should be the EA?
- Someone who is planning to open his or her own office as a tax professional
- Someone who wants to work for accounting firm, financial institution, and corporation as an accountant
- Someone who needs overall tax knowledge such as the person currently working for insurance industry, real estate field, and financial industry
(You don’t need a college degree and you don’t need to be a US citizen to be an EA)
Course schedule
- 16 session course during the eight weeks (two sessions per week/three hours each class)
- The course begins on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Classes take place on Wednesday evening (6:30pm to 9:30pm) or Saturday morning (9:00am to 12:00pm)
Exam facts
In April 2006, the IRS announced that Thomson Prometric, a global testing firm, had been selected to de-velop and administer a computer-based version the exam on behalf of the IRS.
The parts of the new exam are:
· Part 1 - Individuals
· Part 2 - Businesses
· Part 3 - Representation, Practice and Procedures
Additional details include:
· Each part of the new exam will have about 100 questions.Candidates will not be required to take all parts in on sitting.The examination will be offered at approximately 300 testing centers operated by Thomson Prometric. Previously, the IRS has only been able to offer testing at about 90 locations. Candidates will take the examination at a computer terminal.Each part of the examination will be 3.5 hours long.
